The year was probably 1999.

I was in 200 level, my quest to acquire a Law degree just gathering steam in University.

I was learning a lot about myself in this new school and city I had moved to. I made new friends, had new dreams and was at least a year away from the totally baffling choice to start wearing green contact lenses.

But I digress.

Now I don’t remember a lot of the details – whose house we went to or who I was even with, but I do recall I went with a friend to go see someone who had gotten a new batch of CDs.

(Gen Z, CD means compact discs. It’s how we used to listen to music in the 1800’s.)

Anyway, we’re flipping through these discs, trying to find songs we would pick for the inevitable mix tape. Valentine’s Day was approaching you see, and even us nerds needed to obey the rules. We were chatting, listening to songs (and making lists) and then I happened on this Tevin Campbell CD.

Now I knew about Tevin (who didn’t?) and I respected his work, but I had never heard of this Dandelion song, so I popped it in and pressed play. The song started simple enough, soft beats, strings. I was impatiently tapping my finger just as…
